This add-on to Community Server 2007 and 2008, adds support for editing the navigation items of a site through the theme configuration page in the site's control panel.

The add-on supports:

A single row of navigation items
Multiple rows of navigation items
One or more rows of navigation items and drop-down sub-navigation items

The download includes installation instructions for each of these scenarios, a pre-compiled version of the add-on, as well as the full source.

Ben, where exactly do I add: Level="0" RenderChildrenInContextMenu="false" Property="dynamicNavigation" Theme="hawaii" Instructions says to find but I couldn't find it on master.Master

jelpaesao -- I thought about providing a set of files to overwrite in the out-of-the-box themes (so it would be a copy-and-paste installation), but decided against it since the same process couldn't be used for other add-ons. Let me know if/how I can clarify the installation instructions.

I'm sure I'm doing something silly. Error Could not load file or assembly 'GetBen.DynamicNavigation' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'GetBen.DynamicNavigation' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

Steve -- Ensure that you copied the GetBen.DynamicConfiguration.dll file from the bin/ folder in the download into the bin/ folder of your Community Server site.

Yea it's there. I doubled checked it. Not sure what's going on.. error feels like it does not see the dll. Any other suggestions?

Steve -- Ensure that the ASP.Net user has permissions to read/execute the DLL.

Yep was missing permissions on dll... rookie mistake my bad! Thanks for the help. I can't get the "Multiple Navigation Rows" to show in the Hawaii theme? Is this a theme like "Lean and Green" where the CSS needs to be edited? Thanks Again, S.

Hi, I've copied the bin file to the BIN folder - the site works fine. When I add the line from the readme into my master.Master file and save it, the site dies! Error message: Compiler Error Message: CS0104: 'CSLinkData' is an ambiguous reference between 'CommunityServer.Controls.CSLinkData' and 'GetBen.DynamicNavigation.CSLinkData' any ideas? I'm using CS2007 and Leanandgreen

Steve -- In the Hawaii theme, you should at least place a

in between each navigation row (each control).

Daniel Rae -- Could you send me the source of your master.master file via the email/contact form? This ambiguity should only exist if there are code references to CSLinkData... any code references should be updated to use the full namespace.

Daniel Rae -- I've responded to your emai. The issue was caused by some inline custom code that referenced the CSLinkData control. These references needed to be updated to reference th CommunityServer.Controls.CSLinkData control (using the full namespace).

Is there a way to make a menu "non-clickable". I'm using the drop-down menu style and would like the main heading (blogs) to not contain a hyperlink - the sub-menu items should link to blogs directly. I've tried using "#" (BLOGS|#|Everyone), but it links to my homepage. Structure is: BLOGS -BLOG 1 -BLOG 2 -BLOG 3 Any ideas?

The installation worked great. The navigation works fine on Home and Forums, but when navigating to the Blog, the special navigation links are not shown. Should we be making changes to some of the Blog specific theme pages?

Daniel Rae -- Non-clickable items are not directly supported. Setting the URL to "javascript :void(0)" will result in an unclickable item, however.

Ben - I am having problems getting Multiple navigations to work correctly. Is there suppose to be multiple GetBen:NavigationList (one for each level)? Also in which level do I set RenderChildrenInContextMenu to True? Below is a copy of part of my config. Okay, I found a problem. On the homepage the menu shows up find with the drop down. Once I get to the gallery, instead of the drop down the menue is added to the first navigation.

This tool is great but I found one issue in IE7. When using FireFox the dropdown menu items are properly left justified. In IE7 it center justified. How can I fix this so it's left justified in both?

great plugin it worked with any hiccups :) only one thing im not totally happy with is how the plugin creates the next level for the drop downs. What i mean is it uses javascript to access the dropdowns list so if you don't have javascript you cant get the dropdowns. they should be inserted into the template as a list so if css is turned off they appear in the menu list. is there anything i can do to change this? is this something with your plugin or community server? thanks Lee

Hi, Are ther any known issues when running this on a Win 2003 64bit server where IIS is running in 32 bit mode? It seems like after installing the component several form post are timeout. Regards, Danny

Jerry -- This may be caused by custom CSS in your theme. I don't see this in IE. I'd suggest reviewing your CSS.

slee -- This is how the control is implemented. It uses the Telligent.Glow.PopupMenu control to render the pop-up menus. This control does not render

content to the page. You could render the secondary navigation items as a new row of links and/or provide sub-navigation on the top-level links to access the sub-link content (to provide an alternate navigation path to sub-content).

Danny -- There are no *known* issues with running this on Windows 2003 64bit. That said, it has not been specifically tested in this environment.

A long while back you helped me implement dropdown menus in CS 2007 -- and now in this development version of our site, I'm trying real hard to get this dynamic approach working. I'm sooo close, but no dropdown. The admin feature seems to work, but no dynamic menus. Would you be willing to look at the master.master or other stuff and see what I've missed?
